For Sophia’s 2nd birthday, we turned the theme into the whole experience: “TWO the Sea.” Guests were welcomed through a lilac and seafoam balloon arch lined with jellyfish, octopus and turtle cutouts, next to a “Sophia’s Aquarium” gift wall stocked with plush sea creatures that each little guest could adopt and take home with them.
Outside, jellyfish-shaped stools doubled as seating around a “Mermaid Hair Salon” activity table, a small touch that gave little guests something to do, not just look at. A real coral reef aquarium tied the theme back to something genuinely alive, not just decorative.
The dessert table carried two cakes: a pearl-and-shell tiered Madelein tower cake finished with a ribbon, and a hand-piped “2” cake topped with a fondant octopus, turtle and jellyfish. Shell-and-starfish cupcakes, cake pops, cookies and macarons all created to theme rounded it out.
It’s this kind of layering, a real feature alongside the styled ones, an activity alongside the photo moments that makes a theme feel considered rather than decorative.
